Rob Gronkowski anuncia su retiro de la NFL

Una de las piezas más importantes de los Patriots en la última década, Rob Gronkowski, anunció su retiro de la NFL. El tight end de New England anunció el fin de su carrera de la NFL, la cual duró nueve temporadas, a través de su cuenta de Instagram

It all started at 20 years old on stage at the NFL draft when my dream came true, and now here I am about to turn 30 in a few months with a decision I feel is the biggest of my life so far. I will be retiring from the game of football today. I am so grateful for the opportunity that Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick gave to me when drafting my silliness in 2010. My life experiences over the last 9 years have been amazing both on and off the field. The people I have meet, the relationships I have built, the championships I have been apart of, I just want to thank the whole New England Patriots organization for every opportunity I have been giving and learning the great values of life that I can apply to mine. Thank you to all of Pats Nation around the world for the incredible support since I have been apart of this 1st class organization. Thank you for everyone accepting who I am and the dedication I have put into my work to be the best player I could be. But now its time to move forward and move forward with a big smile knowing that the New England Patriots Organization, Pats Nation, and all my fans will be truly a big part of my heart for rest of my life. It was truly an incredible honor to play for such a great established organization and able to come in to continue and contribute to keep building success. To all my current and past teammates, thank you for making each team every year special to be apart of. I will truly miss you guys. Cheers to all who have been part of this journey, cheers to the past for the incredible memories, and a HUGE cheers to the uncertain of whats next.

Para muchos (incluyéndome) Gronk fue la parte divertida de la ” nueva” dinastía de los Patriots. Su estilo de juego, forma de celebrar y actitud tanto dentro como fuera del terreno de juego le dieron otra óptica a un equipo caracterizado sólo por ejecutar y ser efectivo.

Pero Rob Gronkowski fue uno de los TE más dominantes de la NFL, mientras estuvo sano. Ver a Gronk en contra de un linebacker o un safety era casi ilegal, ya que por tamaño, velocidad o manos era simplemente imparable.

Participó en 115 partidos de temporada regular, en donde acumuló 521 recepciones para 7 861 yardas y 79 anotaciones. Fue nombrado cuatro veces All-Pro primer equipo. Participó en cuatro Super Bowls con los Patriots y tiene tres anillos de campeón de la NFL.

Rob Gronkoswki apenas cumpliría 30 años el 14 de mayo de 2019, pero su carrera estuvo plagada de lesiones. De hecho, la última vez que jugó 16 partido de temporada regular fue en 2011, cuando atrapó 17 pases de TD y más de 1 300 yardas. La cifra de touchdowns sigue siendo un récord de la NFL para su posición.

Los Patriots ya están enfocados en buscar a su suplente, pero Gronk debería entrar al Salón de la Fama. Su problema para ser considerado el mejor en la posición está en su durabilidad, pero no cabe duda que el TE de New England puede decir que fue uno de los mejores en la historia y que además cambió la forma en que se juega la posición.
